Erin Humphries (second from left), an eighth-grade student at North Central Middle School (NCMS), has taken the first step to becoming an internationally recognized artist by winning a local competition sponsored by the Bethune Lions Club. Her poster was among more than 350,000 entries submitted worldwide in the annual Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International is sponsoring the program to emphasize the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. Locally there were 84 participants with Julia Daniels (center) coming in second place and Caitlin Clark (second from right) in third place. The sequence of competition will be district, state and international.  The students are flanked by Don Witham (left), Lions Club coordinator, and Leslie Pate, North Central Middle art instructor. “We wish Erin the best as her poster is submitted to district competition,” said club officials. Erin’s quote about her poster was, “The power of peace can bring countries together, no matter how far apart they may be.”
