It has been termed “Where Halloween meets gasoline.”
And, ready or not, the 24 Hours of LeMons is returning to the Carolina Motorsports Park in Westville this weekend for another weekend of serious racing and even more serious fun.
Before the cars, which must have been purchased and/or prepared for $500 or less, hit the race course on Saturday, they will be on display at a free block party on Broad Street --- which will be blocked off to traffic --- in Camden beginning at 6:30 p.m. tonight and continuing until 9:30 p.m.
LeMons (pronounced lemons) officials anticipate that more than 100 cars with their teams will descend on downtown Camden for a party which will include live music and vendors selling both food and refreshments.
The public is invited to attend the party, take a look at some of the colorful vehicles. Drivers and team members are more than happy to talk about and discuss their cars.
The gates to the Carolina Motorsports Park will open to the public at 9 a.m. Saturday. Tickets will be sold as a one-day pass for $20 or two-day pass for $30. Children 12 and under are admitted free. The park is located at 3662 Kershaw Camden Highway, approximately 20 minutes north of Camden on U.S. 521.
The green flag waves at 10 a.m. and the racing begins and runs non-stop until 6:30 p.m.
Racing will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. before taking a mandatory one-hour break. Racing resumes at noon until 4 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony.
Visitors to Carolina Motorsports Park this weekend can also try their luck at karting with rental karts available at the facility. Drivers must be 12 years or older to drive and rentals will be available Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Rates are $20 for 10-minute sessions.
