C&K Historic Consulting’s Carrie Giauque, the city’s historic preservation consultant, will be on hand for Camden City Council’s 4 p.m. work session Tuesday. While City Planner Shawn Putnam will present revised design guidelines for a proposed board of architectural review (BAR), Giauque will make herself available to answer questions as well.

The guidelines were the subject of the first of three public meetings on the proposed BAR. The first took place Thursday evening and focused on the guidelines. All work sessions are open to the public and the city is counting Tuesday’s work session as the second of the public meetings in the series. Although the public will not be able to ask questions of Giauque during the meeting, by attending they will be able to witness the dialogue between Putnam, Giauque and council.

The only other scheduled item on Tuesday’s work session agenda will be a discussion lead by City Manager Kevin Bronson on Welsh Street annexation.

Following the work session, council will meet at 6:30 p.m. for its regular meeting. The agenda is brief, including the following items:

• consideration of a resolution authorizing the consumption of beer and wine during the Carolina Downhome Blues Festival, Oct. 4-6;

• consideration of a resolution that would also authorize the consumption of beer and wine during the Camden Antiques Fair, Oct. 18-21;

• consideration of a resolution approving the transfer of $19,000 from the city’s restricted project improvement fund in order to cover the cost of having an outside firm conduct a citizen survey in January;

• consideration of a $2,500 façade grant for the Greenleaf Villa on Broad Street to build a steel fence using the property’s original brick foundation; and

• the appointment of an interim city attorney in the wake of City Attorney Charles Cushman’s suspension following his arrest on misconduct in office charges.
