Doris Maddox went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 20, 2012. She was born in Columbia, SC, the daughter of the late Benjamin Irby Maddox and Ola Alberta Sutton Maddox. Doris was a dedicated Christian woman, who served many years teaching Sunday School beginning when she was 15 and continuing as long as her health permitted, as well as serving in many other areas of ministry. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great joy to her, and she loved spending time with them.

It was so important to her that God’s Word be available to persons who didn’t have a Bible, that she contributed over 2000 Bibles through the American Bible Society and Gideons. Her life consisted of serving her Lord and loving and caring for her family and friends. She loved her job at Mary Rice of Camden as dress shop manager. The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Foster, Dr. Carl Kearse, the staff of First Baptist Church, the Kershaw Hospice and the loving, caring staff at the Karesh Wing of Kershaw Health.

Doris is survived by daughters; Lynda Ham(Carson) and Janis Rivers (Rodwell), both of Camden, Beverly Oswald, of Charleston, and Karen Tidwell, of Camden; grandchildren, Roger A. "Tony" Ham (Jennifer), Richard "Ricky" Ham (Darlene), Jonathan Scott Rivers, and Jennifer Rivers Bentley (Travis); 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, June M. Ogburn, Sarah M. Brasington, and Carolyn M. West, all of Camden.

Doris was predeceased by grandson, Ronald A. Ham and brothers, William G. Maddox and Charles E. Maddox.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
