There will be a barbecue chicken dinner to benefit Shannon Vincent Wessinger on Friday, Sept. 28 at Buffalo Church Ministry on Lockhart Rd. in Boonetown.
The dinner will take place from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Barbecue plates, either for eat-in or take out, are $8 each.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Shannon Vincent Wessinger Benefit Fund.
Wessinger, a 1999 North Central High graduate, became a quad amputee due to complications from a Strep A infection following the birth of her second child in May. She was hospitalized for more than two months.
In the spring of 1999, Wessinger was the starting pitcher for head coach Mitch Lowder’s Lady Knights softball team which won that year’s class A state championship. To this day, that squad remains the only team in school history to have won a state title. Wessinger went on to play her college softball at Winthrop Unviersity. She is now the junior varsity and assistant softball coach at White Knoll High School in Lexington where she lives with her husband and their daughter and son.
