Leave signs alone

My letter is written on behalf of all the local citizens of Camden who believe in our wonderful country and the freedoms we are given for choices in our lives.

Unfortunately, there are always those citizens who seem to delight in challenging these freedoms in a negative way. Case in point is the deliberate destruction of the campaign signs of Mr. Tony Scully, a candidate for mayor of Camden. His signs, which have been placed in many locations throughout Camden, have been maliciously taken and destroyed or discarded in various areas. What person or persons would be so determined to destroy symbols of the political choice of citizens who may not agree with them? Do they feel so threatened that they find it necessary to remove these symbols of publicity for a legitimate candidate for office? Do they think it is their mission to destroy the right of someone who is willing to run for an office and follow the guidelines for an election?

The taking of Mr. Scully’s signs is an action that is a sad testament to the complete disregard for the democratic way of life for all of us. It is a lack of respect on the part of the thieves for their neighbors, relatives and friends. One can only imagine the kind of person or persons who would even consider making a “choice” to participate in this kind of vandalism.

Let’s allow everyone running for office to be able to have their right to publicity on an equal basis and not be harassed by a person or persons who are determined to ruin this right for the candidates. May Mr. Scully be allowed to place his signs at the locations of choice and may this coming election be as it should be, with the freedom to vote for the individual of choice for each citizen without interference of any kind. That’s the American way!
