Fire and rescue crews from the Lugoff Fire Department (LFD) removed the passenger door to this car following a Tuesday afternoon crash at the intersection of Ridgeway and Boulware roads in Lugoff.

It was the second crash in two days the LFD responded to involving entrapment. Firefighters used rescue tools to cut open the vehicles and remove metal doors in order to remove occupants for transportation to the hospital for treatment.

Crews responded to Getty’s Road near Three Branches Road around 7:30 a.m. Monday for a major vehicle crash with entrapped occupants and one vehicle on fire. Crews arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved with an SUV on fire. Crew members found the driver of another vehicle trapped in a car. The driver was later airlifted by a LifeNet helicopter to Columbia.

Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, LFD rescue personnel responded to S.C. 34 (Ridgeway Road) at Boulware Road, also in Lugoff. Rescue 10 arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved in the crash with one occupant trapped in the rear seat. Crews stabilized the car and removed the passenger side doors from the vehicle and assisted Kershaw EMS with removing the occupant for transport to the hospital. Pine Grove Fire responded to both incidents to assist with the extrication.

LFD Chief Denis Ray said, “Vehicle entrapments can be very complicated based on the location of each person inside the vehicles. Our crews have to stay proficient on fire and rescue skills for incidents such as this.”
