KershawHealth Foundation Executive Director Joseph Bruce has been elected to the board of the South Carolina Society for Hospital Fund Development, a division of the South Carolina Hospital Association. This group is dedicated to advancing and supporting the foundations and fund development offices of its member hospitals. The group coordinates educational programs designed to strengthen foundations and promote professional development. It also allows its members the opportunity to network and develop relationships as well as discuss current events and issues that fundraisers face.

“Hospitals in South Carolina and all across the country are facing significant challenges as reimbursement for care decreases while charity care increases,” Bruce said. “As a result, philanthropic support from the communities our hospitals serve will be more and more critical to their ability to continue their missions. And so for me, it is a particularly fulfilling time to be coming on this board.”

The KershawHealth Foundation was established in 1989 to enhance and support the mission of Kershaw County’s local, not-for-profit healthcare system. In the ensuing two decades, it has continued to develop a philanthropic network and to provide support for a broad range of advances, including a major expansion of the medical center, enhanced diagnostic and treatment options, and a variety of community outreach programs. KershawHealth will celebrate a century of service to the community in 2013.
