Mrs. Viola Elizabeth Salmond Wood was born on Jan. 1, 1925, the oldest of eleven siblings to the late Eva Mae Salmond Eugene Watkins, peacefully made her transition at home on Oct. 3, 2012.

She was married to her beloved Leslie Wood for 66 years.

Mrs. Wood was a devoted, faithful, and active member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church for 74 years. In the community, she worked and served in numerous organizations: Composite 227 Order of Eastern Star, life member of the NAACP and was a pioneer in the African American community.

Surviving are her children: Byrdyne (Franklin) Bell of Augusta, Ga., Brenda Wood and Sheila (Floyd) Bracey, both of Lugoff, S.C., Clinzo Wood (deceased) and Sandra Wood of Columbia, S.C.

Funeral service for Mrs. Viola Wood will be held Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Ward Road in Lugoff, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, Oct. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the church with the Order of Eastern Star conducting their ritual.

Collins Funeral Home of Camden is in charge of the arrangements.
