An 8-year-old Camden girl survived a single-car accident Tuesday that claimed the life of her grandmother.

Lois Skipper, 50, of Camden, was driving on Baron DeKalb Road around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when her car veered off the road and struck a tree, according to Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers. She was not wearing a seat belt, Fellers said.

The child, who was buckled up, was taken to KershawHealth, where she was treated and released, Fellers said.
