L-E’S KELLI MURPHY EARNED a spot in next week’s Upper State 4A girls’ golf championship tournament.

An ultra-successful summer is turning into a special fall for Kelli Murphy.
The Lugoff-Elgin junior shot a 6-over par 78 on Monday at the Members Club at Wildewood to win the Region 4-4A girls’ golf championship by nine strokes over Juliana Sebastian of Spring Valley High School.
Playing as an individual, since Lugoff-Elgin does not field a girls’ golf team, Murphy earned a spot in the 4A girls’ Upper State golf championship to be played on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Smithfields Country Club in Easley.
The top teams and individual qualifiers will advance to the 4A state championship to be played on Oct. 29-30 at the Country Club of Lexington.
This past summer, Murphy played her way in the elite eight in the United States Golf Association Junior Girls’ Championship in Merced, Cal. That came shortly after Murphy won her third consecutive Columbia City Women’s Golf Championship.
