All the footballs and volleyballs have been packed away as Kershaw County high school athletic teams head to the great indoors for the 2010-11 basketball and wrestling seasons.

As was the case in football, the biggest change in the county will be Lugoff-Elgin’s move into the 4A ranks.

The Demons bid a fond farewell to 3A wrestling last winter as they gave first-year head coach Even Moxie a state championship in his first go-‘round.

Now, the Demons will be in traditionally tough Region 4-4A, which includes programs such as Irmo, Dutch Fork and Spring Valley. Don’t be shocked if Moxie and compay, with a strong group of returnees back in the fold, make plenty of noise in their new 4A digs.

In basketball, all three Kershaw County public school boys teams  have some rebuilding work to do this year. Both Camden and L-E played in the state 3A tourney last winter with Camden falling to eventual Lower State champion, Lake City, in round two.

There will be a change in command at the head of the Demons’ bench as former L-E standout Derek Belton, moves up one chair as he takes over as head coach following the retirement of Calvin McRoy at the conclusion of last season.

In girls’ basketball, all three county teams return many key components from a year ago.

The biggest change on the girls’ side is the return of former CHS all-state player and USC Lady Gamecock, Natalie Jeffcoat, who will patrol the sidelines on the court which, this season, will be renamed in memoryof her former Rockette head coach, Mike Culp, during a ceremony at a home game.

Belton and Jeffcoat will not be the only new faces guiding locale entries. Both North Central and Camden Military Academy have first-year head coaches in wrestling with Britt Gardner guiding the fortunes of the Knight grapplers while Mark Dority takes over the reins at CMA.

Here are the basketball and wrestling schedules for all four Kershaw County schools:
