Kershaw County resident Rhett Hughes, son of Josh and Leigh Hughes, visited Santa last year at the Kershaw County Government Center. The public is invited to see Santa this Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Santa Claus will visit the Kershaw County Government Center Friday.

Children ages 12 and under can get their pictures with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. in the lobby of the administrative offices.

Candy canes, tinsel and other holiday decorations are visible throughout the government center’s offices. Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter said Assistant County Administrator Allen Trapp, County Clerk Merri Seigler and other staff members helped to “get the ball rolling” on the festive scene.

“Allen, Merri, and the staff here really pulled together last year and said ‘you know, this would be a fun thing to do,’” Carpenter said. “So they went out and got it all donated. It didn’t cost a dime to the county. There was some personal money put into and they built it themselves.”

He said he hoped the decorations would help spread holiday cheer throughout the office and into the community as well.

“We have great people working here. This is a chance for the community to interact with them in a fashion that’s really positive, enlightening, and enjoyable,” Carpenter said.

Trapp said he’s heard visitors to the office also reminisce about how the Belk Department Store used to be located at the government center’s current location.

“That was the place to go see Santa Claus,” Trapp said with a smile. “It was a big deal and it was right here in this building. We tried to recreate a little of that, a little bit of nostalgia.”

The public is invited to visit the center, located at 515 Walnut St. in Camden, throughout the holiday season.
