Volunteers hold on for 71-63 win over NC to sweep series

JEREMY FOWLER HAD HIS second consecutive 26-point game in North Central’s loss to rival Andrew Jackson on Friday night.

Andrew Jackson grabbed the early lead against North Central and held onto the advantage throughout the game en route to a 71-63 victory over the visiting Knights in a non-region basketball game played on Friday in Kershaw.
The eight-point victory gave the host Volunteers a sweep of the two-game season series between the two rivals.
Andy Johnson’s troops fell to 3-6 on the season with the setback.
AJ carried a 19-14 lead into the second quarter and added a point to its cushion at halftime carrying a 36-30 advantage into the locker room at intermission. The Knights chopped a point off the deficit, trailing 47-42 entering a final eight minutes of play in which the hosts outscored NC, 24-21.
For the second straight game, North Central senior forward Jeremy Fowler led the Knights with 26 points. He scored 26 in a loss to Lugoff-Elgin last Wednesday night. Fowler also brought down three rebounds.
Senior center Kawan Hough had a 16-point, eight-rebound night for Johnson and company who also received 11 points and seven rebounds from Josh Jones and a 10-point, three-bound game from senior guard Brady Brister.
Carolina Classic comes to The Castle: The Knights will host the May Plant Credit Union Carolina Classic on Thursday and Friday nights at The Castle in Boonetown.
The four-team, all-boys event kicks off with Thursday’s first round games. The 6 p.m. opener has McBee facing off with Cheraw followed by the Knights taking on Westminster-Catawba in the 7:30 p.m. game. The consolation contest is slated for 6 p.m. on Friday followed by the championship game.
Tickets are $5 each night.
