Elizabeth “Betty” Hatfield Deas, 80, widow of L.W. “Dock” Deas, died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Leroy Parker Hatfield and the late Corrine Smith Hatfield. Mrs. Deas attended El-Bethel Faith  Community Church. Betty was a strong woman with an unmatched commitment to her family. She was a dedicated Christian who lived her life as an example for others. She was Valedictorian of her class, but chose not to pursue further education in order to marry her beloved Dock and start their family.
After raising their three kids, she started her career working many years for Farm Bureau Insurance. She was an extremely proud Mother, Grandmother,  and Great Grandmother who was always available to help anyone in need, and who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her three children, Vicki D. Baker (William) of Sumter, Larry Deas (Janice) of Fort Mill, and Sandra D. Love (Scott) of Camden;  eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Parker Hatfield, Jr. of Elloree, and Jack Lavan Hatfield of Camden; and one sister, Catherine “Kitty” H. Watson of Bishopville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, William F. Hatfield, Sr. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Stines officiating. Burial will be in the Mizpah Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home and other times at the home, 4780 Jamestown Rd.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 950 48th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
