Saturday evening, 11 young women competed in the Miss Camden scholarship program for the title of Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen 2013.

Contestants showcased their talents for friends and the community as pageant emcees Miss South Carolina 1997, Janet Powers Roller, and Don Spivey kept the crowd entertained.

"I admire all of the participants. It takes a lot of time and talent to be in this pageant. They’re doing a great job," said Spivey.

During the interview portion of the competition, contestants were asked questions such as who inspires them, what can be done to end bullying, and who motivates them.

At the end of the night, Lauren Jeffcoat received the title of Miss Camden and Bethany Parrott received the title of Miss Camden Teen.

Both young women were ecstatic at being chosen to represent the city of Camden.

"I am so excited. I am excited to promote my platform of anti-bullying," said Miss Camden 2013 Lauren Jeffcoat.

Jeffcoat has had a close family member be a victim of bullying and is passionate about helping to end bullying.

She plans to transfer to USC from Central Carolina to major in social work as she fulfills her duties as Miss Camden.

Miss Camden Teen, Bethany Parrott, is currently a student at Camden High School and is looking forward to beginning her time as Miss Camden Teen.

"I am excited about seeing a change in my community," said Parrott.

Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen 2012 both had well wishes for their successors.

"It’s bittersweet," said Powers of the end of her time as Miss Camden, "I’m really excited for Lauren."

Powers plans to finish college at USC and is considering continuing in the pageant circuit.

"Nothing will be like representing my own home town," said Powers.

During her time as Miss Camden Teen, Schoolfield most enjoyed being involved with special needs awareness.

"It was a great blessing to have. I really enjoyed promoting my platform for special needs," said Schoolfield who is currently a student at Camden High School.

This summer Miss Camden and Miss Camden Teen 2013 will participate in the Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen competition for the chance to represent South Carolina in the 2013 Miss America pageant.
