Kershaw County Council will consider appointing Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Liz Horton to the Kershaw County Economic Advisory Council as a replacement for outgoing member Karen Eckford during Tuesday’s meeting.

Eckford, senior vice president of NBSC in Camden, resigned from the group after being appointed by council in September to serve as a member of the KershawHealth Board of Trustees. Last April, she was honored by the S.C. Department of Commerce for her service to industry growth as an economic development ambassador.

Kershaw County Economic Development Director Peggy McLean said Horton will be nominated to serve on the nine member board. She has served as head of the local chamber since 2008.

In other business, council will reconsider a bid to provide bunker gear for the Kershaw County Fire Department. Council voted Jan. 8 to award Nafeco Inc. of Rock Hill a $42,110 contract to provide the gear, but at the time, the company did not consider the total tax value when making its bid. According to Kershaw County Fire Marshal Gene Faulkenberry, council will now consider a $42,217 bid from Wally’s Fire and Safety, based in Mullins, which became the lowest offer after reconfiguring the bids.

Council will also hold a public hearing and consider third reading of an ordinance authorizing the conveyance of real property on Pheasant Walk in Elgin. Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter previously stated the proposal was related to a “sliver” of property that needs to be paved. Council will also consider third reading of a zoning reclassification of the Sun Valley subdivision in Elgin.

Additionally, Carpenter’s performance as county administrator will be discussed during an executive session.
