This is the second year that a group of local youths have donated venison to Food for the Soul. The youth, who hunted the deer, donated 103 pounds of deer meat.

The meat was processed by Roy Floyd’s Peach Orchard Deer Processing and paid for with money collected from 540 pounds scrap metal by the youth group.

Tommy Marshall, who led the group, took the youth on the outing on the weekend of New Years Eve. The youth hunted deer and cleaned land on Mike and Tina Lockhart’s farm in Rembert.

Mable Brevard, Food for the Soul food services manager, estimates that she should be able to feed approximately 600 people with the donated meat.

"We served over 17,000 meals here last year, so you can imagine what community support means when you are feeding sometimes 90 people a day … without that support we would not be able to provide meals for that many people" said Fred Ogburn, Food for the Soul director.
