A memorial service for Claudia Dority “Dee” Evans, 64, will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter, 460 Fair Street, Camden, S.C.  29020 or Whippet Rescue and Placement, 12035 West Brown Deer Road, Milwaukee, WI  53224.

Ms. Evans died Friday, February 1, 2013.  Born in Florence, she was the daughter of the late Theron Kelly and Claudia Dority Evans.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Carolina and her practitioner training at the Medical University of South Carolina.  She was a nurse practitioner with Richland County Health Department and also had worked for Kershaw County Health Department.

Ms. Evans was known for her love of animals especially her dogs.  She was a member of American Whippet Club and active with Whippet Rescue and Placement.

Surviving are her sister, Elaine E. Thompson of Spicewood, Texas; brother, Kelly Evans (Teresa) of Lancaster, S.C; and nieces and nephew, Julia Russo (Rick), Kelly Wayne Evans (Lauren) and Holley Evans.
