HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampton University senior guard Olivia Allen, the daughter of Cassatt natives Henry, Jr., and Iva (Clark) Allen, helped lead the Hampton University women’s basketball team to an 83-42 win over visiting Norfolk State at the HU Convocation Center in front of a national ESPNU audience on Monday night.
The victory gave the Lady Pirates a 20-5 overall record and an 11-0 mark in MEAC play. The win was also the 11th in a row for Hampton, which recorded its fourth consecutive 20-win season, something which the program had never accomplished at the Division I level.
In the win over Norfolk State, Allen led the Lady Pirates with a career-best 26 points, going 12-for-12 from the floor. She had 19 of her points in the first half.
Earlier this month, Allen was named as Hampton University’s Athlete of the Week after scoring a then-career-high 25 points in a 68-59 win over Coppin State.
On that night, the 5-foot-6 guard who hails from Kildeer, Ill., hit seven of her 15 field goals, including a 5-for-9 effort from behind the arc and a 6-for-8 effort from the free throw line.
Allen has now scored in double figures in eight straight games, including four 20-point performances. She is third on the team in scoring with an 11.9 points per game average. She leads the Lady Pirates with 38 3-point field goals and in field goal percentage from beyond the arc at .380. She also tops Hampton in free throw percentage, having made 34 of her 44 tries from the foul line for a .773 accuracy mark.
Her maternal grandparents are the late Thomas and Audree Clark of Cassatt and her paternal grandparents are Henry Sr. and Mildred Allen of Sumter. Olivia also has a brother, Derek Allen.
