Nominations for the Margot Rochester Landscape Award are now being received by the city of Camden Parks and Trees Commission. The award recognizes a commercial business, public institution, organization, church or school for beautifying Camden with "exceptional landscaping and grounds maintenance." Last year, Camden Elementary School’s sensory garden was selected for the 2012 Landscape Award winner.

The award is named after the late Margot Rochester. Margot was a Master Gardener and also a contributing writer to the Chronicle-Independent.

"People who knew her recognized her passion and love for people …She was a fabulous educator," said Deborah Davis of Margot.

The award reflects Margot’s love of gardening and for beautifying the community through landscaping

"We wanted to have an award in her honor. Gardening was her passion," said Davis.

Those interested in participating in this year’s competition can contact Liz Gilland at the city of Camden Public Works Department at 425-6045 or at lgilland@cam for a nomination form. Those interested can also visit for more information.
