Special to the C-I (Camden, S.C.)
Former Camden High All-State selection and current Francis Marion University junior guard Evrik Gary has been selected to the 2013 Peach Belt Conference third-team All-Conference men’s basketball squad.
The 6-foot-3 Gary led the Patriots in scoring and rebounding with averages of 18.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He connected on 43.2 percent of his field goal attempts, including 35.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc, and 86.9 percent of his free throws, while also leading FMU with 49 steals.  He averaged a team-high 30.8 minutes per game and registered more assists than turnovers (64/42) and shared the team lead with eight blocked shots.
He ranks 34th nationally in free throw percent and 54th in scoring. Among his Peach Belt brethren, he ranks second in free throw shooting, fourth in steals, sixth in scoring, seventh in three-pointers made, and despite playing in the backcourt is 21st in rebounding.
His scoring average and all shooting percentages were higher this season in PBC games. He scored in double figures 24 times with ten 20-point games, including three 30-point games.  Seven of his 20-point games occurred in conference play.
A three-year starter, Gary is already 13th on the Patriot career scoring list with 1,228 points.
In the classroom, Gary was a 2012 selection to the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll and has been named to the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll five times.
The Patriots ended their 2012-13 campaign with an 11-15 overall mark and placed sixth in the PBC’s East Division standings.
While at Camden High School, Gary helped lead Ron McKie’s Bulldogs to the 2008-09 AAA state basketball championship, earning AAA All-State honors along the way. He was also a South Carolina High School League Scholar Athlete Award winner at CHS.
