C.C. Canada To Drive At Sebring

C. C. Canada and Bob Christianson of Huntsville, Ala. have been named as drivers of the Ralph Boykin No. 12 Camaro in the 12 Hours of Sebring on March 20.

Canada and Christianson are two of the top Camaro drivers in the southeast, having finished 3rd and 5th respectively in the National SCCA division rankings.  Both are veterans of Sebring as well as Atlanta, Daytona, Savannah road tracks where they have been up against some of the toughest fields in the nation.

The blue and white Camaro finished 3rd over-all with Mark Donahue driving in 1968, and was later purchased by a Camden group including Canada and Boykin.  The Camden team will be shooting for top position in the touring class in Sebring this year and anticipate speeds up to 175 mph…

Sandlapper Field Trial Winners Are Announced

“Sno Fun Ann” took first place honors in the Open Shooting Dog class of the Sandlapper Field Trial here Saturday and a purse of $250.

Handled by Carl Beatty and owned by Dr. Walker Heap of Watertown, New York, the female pointer had three good finds and a fair backcourse according to the judges.

Second place went to “Hystyle Madonna,” a female pointer handled by Gilbert Barkley and owned by Carroll F. Godwin of Lake City…

“Untouchable Jim” took third place in Open Shooting Dog.  The male pointer handled by Bill Martin for Kentucky Mountain Kennells of Hazard, Kentucky…

The Open Derby first place went to “little Orphan Annie”, a female pointer handled by Gilbert Barkley and owned by Sgt. James Gilman of Columbia…

The three day event hosted 66 dogs, pointers and setters from South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, New York, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

3 Entries in Marine Talent Show

Three entries have been received in the 8th Annual Marines Talent Show to be held at Phelps Auditorium on Friday, April 2, from 8-10 p.m.

Entered thus far are Gail Brower, singer; Dead On Arrival, a rock ‘n roll dance band composed of Jack Rech, Gene Gaulin, Randy Hunter, Paul Thogersen and Steve Sheheen and The Mulkey Singers.

…American Bank and Trust has donated a $25 Savings Account to the overall winner, and the following door prizes have been contributed:  garbage cans and wife saver from Piggly Wiggly; two camellias donated by Camden Nursery, and a case of family size Cokes donated by the Coca Cola Bottling Co.

Master of Ceremonies for this year’s show will be Bobby Pullum.

Miss Watson Elected To Phi Beta Kappa

Miss Mary Lee Watson of Camden has been elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa national scholarship fraternity at the University of Richmond.

Miss Watson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jake F. Watson of 1908 Forest Dr., Camden is concentrating in mathematics at Westhampton College, the women’s undergraduate division of the University of Richmond.

She was one of 37 University of Richmond seniors chosen for membership in the honor fraternity.

Miss Watson served as the university’s Homecoming Queen in November of 1970 and was president of her dormitory on the Westhampton College campus.  She is a member of the swim team at Westhampton.

She is a graduate of Camden High School, where she was salutatorian of her class.  While there, she won the Bausch and Loam Science Award, the Sigma Mu Sigma mathematics award and the Jaycee Good Citizen award.
