Maddie Jeffers from Ms. Clyburn’s 1st grade class and Daniel Clyburn from Ms. Stockdale’s 3rd grade class are Midway’s “Cowgirl and Cowboy” winners.

Thursday, March 28, was a day for Midway Elementary School students to "cowboy" or "cowgirl up," as the school kicked off activities in anticipation of its Juniors Rodeo which will be held Saturday.

The event will be from 12-3 p.m. Tickets are $5 per adult with one free child. Each additional child under 12 is $1. Twenty-nine contestants from South Carolina and North Carolina will participate.

Students and staff got to dress as a cowboy or cowgirl during the day. Midway classes voted on a cowboy and cowgirl class winner.

Class winners went to the "final round" of judging at the Rodeo Assembly at 1:30 p.m. The cowboy and cowgirl school winners were each rewarded a $25 cash prize. The winners were Maddie Jeffers from Ms. Clyburn’s first grade class and Daniel Clyburn from Ms. Stockdale’s third grade class.

The rodeo is part of the school’s 90th Year Celebration of Midway’s presence in the Cassatt community. Midway High School was established in 1923, later transitioning to Midway Elementary.

Midway Elementary School Principal Dell Brabham said, "The rodeo is an event to reunite Midway alumni as well as an activity to provide current students with an opportunity to link themselves to the history of Midway Elementary."

Contributions from the rodeo will be used for classroom supplies and playground equipment. All proceeds will go directly to school improvements.

For more information, contact Brabham at 432-6122, ext. 6800. Midway Elementary is located at 1892 Highway 1 North in Cassatt.
