In a season of firsts, this is the biggest of them all ... so far.
For the first time in school history, the North Central High School tennis team is playoff-bound.
First-year head coach Jon Parker’s charges clinched a trip to the post-season with a 7-0 victory over Keenan to improve to 5-0 in Region 3-AA.
Christian Pratt avenged his only loss of the season against his opponent, with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at first singles. Justin Reynolds remained undefeated in the region at second singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win while Josh Outen scored a pair of 6-0 shutouts in third singles to keep the shutout intact.
Coleman Roberts swept his fourth singles pairing, winning 6-0, 7-5. Julia Daniels kept her perfect season going with a pair of 6-0 blankings at fifth singles. NC’s number one doubles team of Pratt and Reynolds won by forfeit with the second Knights’ tandem of Justin Witmore and Bailey Wooten posting an easy 6-0, 6-1 victory.
Along with having earned a playoff spot, the Knights could have checked another goal from their list when they traveled to Columbia for Thursday’s conference match. An NC victory would give the tennis team its first conference championship.
