Jones’ actions are misguided

Beware residents of Kershaw County. We cannot be passive about what is happening in county council as we absolutely need to keep a hospital that takes care of everybody whether they are capable of paying their bill or not.

A few personalities cannot get in the way of preserving the integrity and operation of the jewel we have in this county for medical care. The hospital cannot be everything to everybody, but it is everything to many of the citizens that patronize the facility.

Our administration is recognized by other hospital administrators in the state as among the best in the business. These people are knowledgeable enough to understand the managing abilities of the staff at KershawHealth. Jimmy Jones, of the county council, should be transparent about where his “extensive research” was done and how he arrived at the criticism he has for the administrative staff. No KershawHealth trustee can remember Mr. Jones ever visiting a meeting. I could not find that he had been a patient there.

KershawHealth has been so well managed that they have a “break even” record. This means that Kershaw County Council has not had to contribute tax money to keep this facility operating. The county council did contribute two of the ambulances (recently) but did not seem to realize that this benefit has little way to make enough money to provide the required service that the EMS renders.

The honorable people that donate their time and expertise to act as KershawHealth trustees to aid the administration in managing the business of the hospital do not deserve the criticism and accusations made by Mr. Jimmy Jones at the council meetings. Mr. Jones’ misguided attempts to intimidate Mr. Donnie Weeks has become very destructive to the hospital and to the character of all the administration.

The last week of April, we are looking forward to a long-planned celebration of 100 years of the existence of our fine hospital. Now, some of the county council members have put a damper on the attitude on those that have worked so diligently to make this a memorable event.

We must be “aware” that it takes only four people, the majority of the Kershaw County Council, to destroy everything we have going at KershawHealth for the 62,000 residents in the county and even beyond.

Mr. Jones needs to cease his intentional dissension about KershawHealth and the administration, do true research, and put a positive light on the accomplishments of this very nice facility. Reconciliation and cooperation from Mr. Jones can bring about substantial positive results and rid the negativity that is affecting all our lives.

Let us hope we can move in the right direction to save the wonderful hospital we now have.
