CHS athletes have strong showing at Taco Bell Classic

Camden High School had 23 track athletes compete in the 21st annual Taco Bell Classic held at Spring Valley High School. The 2013 edition of the event included more than 1,800 athletes from 150 schools representing 11 states. 
Eleven athletes from CHS recorded personal-best times in their respective events on Saturday.  Representing the boys team were Cedric Cook, Josh Sumpter, Omar Mingo, Mauric James, Marcus Williams, Omar James, Trey Buckelew, Garrett Lawson, Chris Pate, Shaquam McKenney, Michael James, George Randolph and Jordan Sumpter.
Representing the Lady Bulldogs were Darlasia Salmond, Kayla Crim, Heather Woolard, Caroline Woolard, Dayjoi Belton, Kentrell Salmond, Abby McLaughlin, Stephanie Areford, Alesia Davis and Kadrea Ferguson.
Cedric Cook had an outstanding showing as he finished 11th in the 100-meter dash and 17th in the 200-meter dash. Cook also anchored the 4 x 100 relay which placed 13th. The 4 x 400 relay team comprised of Jordan Sumpter, George Randolph, Chris Pate and Michael James ran a season-best 3:33 and will be a favorite in the upcoming Region 4-AAA meet.
“I was very proud of the effort our competitors put forth,” said CHS head coach Emet Reyes at the conclusion of the event. “The Taco Bell Classic had some of the best athletes in the country and our kids competed.”
The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will complete their regular season slate today when they join Lugoff-Elgin for a tri-meet at Ridge View.
