Closing its regular season with a five-inning, non-conference doubleheader with Buford, the North Central baseball team split Wednesday’s twinbill in Lancaster County.
The Knights fell in the opener to the host Yellow Jackets, 1-0, before taking the nightcap, 7-5.
In game one, NC freshman Tyler Bowers went four innings on the mound, giving up one run on two hits.
In game two, the Knights rode four strong innings of work from starting pitcher Paul Blackwell, who earned the mound victory before being relieved by senior Jay Williams, who worked a perfect bottom of the fifth to record the save.
The defensive highlight of the victory was a shoestring catch made by NC right fielder Josh Shropshire, who fired the ball back to the infield to complete a key double play.
Grayson King led the offense as he went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI. Williams went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI while J.P. Faulkenberry was also 2-for-3 while driving in a run.
The Knights will have eight days eight in between games before they host either Cheraw or Central in next Thursday’s AA state tournament first round game.
