Mr. A. Jesse Payne, 82, of Kershaw passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Providence Hospital in Columbia. He was born November 18, 1930 in Kershaw, a son of the late Teddy Payne and Minnie Lee Ellis Payne. Mr. Payne was a member of DeKalb Baptist Church and had retired in 1992 from DuPont. He had been a Butcher at Shealy’s in Camden and Hatfields in Kershaw. He was a US Army Korean War Veteran and was a Mason and Shriner.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Payne will be held Monday, April 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm at DeKalb Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Coates and Rev. Jimmy Holly officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Payne is survived by his wife, Eliza Stevens Payne of Kershaw; a son, Roger Payne and his wife Antoinette of Camden; a daughter, Sandra Payne Hinson of Camden; a brother, Randolph Payne and his wife Mary Ellen of Westville; four sisters, Mary Welch, Betty Hornsby and her husband Herbert, Vonnie Cole, all of Westville and Joyce McDougal of Effingham; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Payne was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna I. Payne; two brothers, James Payne and Raymond Payne; and a grandson, Thomas Payne.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mary Welch, 273 Payne Pond Road, Westville, S.C.
