A Cassatt woman died after she was hit by a train four miles north of Camden near Sanders Creek Road.

Theresa Hough, 38, was walking with a male friend near the tracks around 1 a.m. Monday.

Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office Captain Ed Corey said the man with Hough said he was about 30 feet in front of her and did not know how Hough got in front of the train. The man was not injured and will not be charged, Corey said.

Kelly Woods, of Amtrak, said the train involved in the incident -- Silver Star No. 91 -- was headed to Florida and held 182 passengers. No passengers were harmed, she said. Both Amtrak and the railroad owner CSX sent investigators to the scene.
