Having the bowling lanes in Camden shut down earlier this year did little to deter the Camden Castaways from finding a home for their 2012-13 32-week fall/spring league.
Traveling to Two Notch Road, local bowlers found a new home for their league at Royal Z Lanes. And, recently, the Camden Castaways honored their fall league champions with an end-of-year celebration.
All Ten Down won the league championship. The team was made up of Leroy Roseborough, Eric Will, Tim Jones and Darryl Wilson. Finishing second in the circuit was We Can Roll, a squad comrprised of Jihad Fields, Bobby Peebles, Virginia Wilson and Calvin Hill.
Wilson had the highest average for a male bowler in the league with a 194 while the female title went to Virginia Mickle, who averaged a 165.
We Can Roll had the team scratch series while All Ten Down took the team handicap series crown. The best team scratch game was rolled by East Camden Lounge --- Kenny Branham, Beverly Ray, Darryl Sumner, Virgil Joyner and Amanda Outen --- with the Ravens --- Dennis Wilkerson, Gordon J. Brandon, Eric Carlson, Tony Smallwood and Nancy Carlson --- rolling the highest team handicap game for the season.
The top scratch series rolled by a male in the fall was Jihad Fields’ 688. Amanda Outen rolled a 574 scratch series to lead all females. Virgil Joyner’s 793 handicap series was best among the men with Gladys Williams topping the ladies’ charts with a 762.
Darryl Wilson’s 279 scratch game was the best all year with Rosalind Hampton rolling a 227, best among the women bowlers. Darryl Sumner’s 310 handicap game was the best rolled by a male in league play with Tammy Tollison posting a 279 game which led the way for the female bowlers.
The Camden Castaways opened summer league action at Royal Z Lanes on Wednesday. The fall league is slated to begin in August.
