Kristen Cobb will take a leave of absence as the FAC's executive director to act as State Sen. Vincent Sheheen's communications director in his campaign for governor.

Camden native Kristin Cobb has taken a leave of absence from her position as executive director for the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) to join State Sen. Vincent Sheheen’s gubernatorial campaign as the communications director.

The announcement was made in a press release sent out Wednesday by Sheheen’s campaign manager, Trav Robertson Jr.
Cobb was granted a leave of absence from the FAC board of directors last week.

Cobb says she’s known Sheheen most of her life and “feels fortunate to be able to contribute her talents and energy to the campaign.”

“I have seen his leadership and visionary skills at work and I know he is the right person to lead our state at this critical time,” Cobb said. “I have observed he and (wife) Amy as parents who want the same things for their children as I want for mine, and that is why I agreed to step into this role.”

The campaign was silent on what, specifically, Cobb’s role will be on a daily basis. Her leave of absence expires on Nov. 12.

John Shaylor of Camden will serve as the FAC’s interim director in Cobb’s absence. Shaylor is currently the FAC’s part-time grants administrator. He served as interim executive director before Cobb was hired as full-time director.
