For the third year in a row, the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office will host three summer camps designed for young people who will be in the fifth through eighth grades. The S.T.A.R.S camps, which stands for Self discipline, Teamwork, Attitude, Respect and Selfless Service will give participants a positive, meaningful week of exposure to: crime scene investigations, police K9 demonstrations, fire safety, basic first aid by EMS personnel, Internet safety, anti-bullying, goal setting, team building, law enforcement careers and community service projects.

The camps will be held on the following dates and locations: July 8-12, Camden Middle School; July 15-19, North Central Middle School; and July 22-26, Lugoff-Elgin Middle School.

The cost of the one-week camps is $40 per student. This price includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, T-shirt, cinch bag and water bottle. There are a limited number of scholarships available. Parents will be responsible for transportation of their child to and from the camp. Each camp is limited to 20 students.

“This is a great opportunity for Kershaw County young people to be involved in a very positive summer activity at a very low cost. The camps are designed for girls and boys who want to do something besides sitting at home bored, watching TV. Parents will find this a great opportunity for their kids and a good way to expose their children to character building activities,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said.
