Tuesday’s Kershaw County Council meeting kicked off with a public hearing in which Billy Smith, the Santee Wateree Transit Authority Board Representative for the area, took the opportunity to remind council of how important funding is to keep transportation in parts of the county intact. Smith that said "$18,000-plus" may be cut for the 2013-14 fiscal year and that if there is no money, there may be no routes.

Also Tuesday, council approved a mutual aid agreement between the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and Richland County. The agreement allows the KCSO and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office to share resources as necessary.

In other ordinances for consideration, council approved third and final reading of an ordinance to amend the county’s official zoning map designation for Tax Parcel #3-7-00-00-007 for Jacquelyn Joyner Pittman from RD-2 to R-15. Council also approved a second reading of an ordinance amending the unified code of zoning and land development regulations regarding permitted and conditional uses for off street parking. County Administrator Vic Carpenter said this ordinance amendment is a routine update.

Carpenter said he had hired Joe Eason as the next director of the Kershaw County Recreation Department. Eason is currently employed by Florence County, where he has been for 15 years.

KCC meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at the Government Center at 5:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
