A 50-year-old Camden man is in jail without bond for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

The Camden Police Department (CPD) charged Michael Leroy Williams, of King Street, with kidnapping and first degree criminal sexual conduct after he allegedly assaulted the girl in the bathroom of his home.

The 12-year-old “visited (Williams’) home,” on June 15, and went to use the bathroom. CPD Capt. Mike Stone said Williams then allegedly “cornered” the girl into the bathroom and would not allow her to leave.

Williams was a neighbor and “family friend,” Stone said. Officers arrested Williams after the girl’s mother called the CPD to file a report. According to the incident report, the girl identified Williams as the person who assaulted her.

Stone said Williams has a history with both the CPD and Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. According to Stone Williams was convicted of larceny/burglary in 1981; possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute in 1983; two separate grand larceny/burglary charges in 1984; simple assault/battery in 1985; distribution of cocaine in 1986; second degree burglary/grand larceny in 1989; public disorderly conduct and resisting arrest in 2001; assault of an officer while resisting arrest in 2001; threatening the life of a KCSO official or family member of an official in 2006; a misdemeanor traffic violation in 2009; and open container in a vehicle in 2011.

Stone said the case against Williams is still under investigation and that the CPD is looking at the possibility of other victims.
