Kershaw County Council will discuss the Kershaw County School District’s (KCSD) recent millage request during its meeting Tuesday. According to its agenda, council will discuss the request after third and final reading of the county’s proposed 2013-14 fiscal year budget. KCSD is requesting an additional 3.5 mills from the county.

Also coming after the adoption of the budget, council will consider a resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement between Kershaw County and the city of Camden to provide school resource officers (SROs) at KCSD schools within the city’s limits. Council made the decision to transfer funds originally allocated to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office for SRO funding. The affected schools are Camden High School, Camden Middle School and the Continuous Learning Center.

Council will also hold a public hearing in advance of third and final reading of an ordinance amending the county’s Unified Code of Zoning and Land Development regulations. The amendment concerns permitted and conditional uses, and off-street parking.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers will participate in a presentation of the S.C. Coroners Association’s Deputy Coroner of the Year Award.

Council is also scheduled to go into executive session at the closing of the meeting; council’s proposed agenda did not indicate the executive session’s purpose.

Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Kershaw County Government Center. All meetings are open to the public.
