Kershaw County has a new assessor.

Kershaw County Administrator Vic Carpenter selected Curt Arnold as the county’s new assessor, formally introducing him to Kershaw County Council and the public at council’s June 25 meeting.

“I’ve really enjoyed my first month here,” Arnold said during a recent interview.

Arnold is no stranger to South Carolina, having served as McCormick County’s tax assessor for nine years and the city of Greenwood’s appraiser for 10 years before that. He now calls Lugoff home after having lived in Greenwood for a number of years.

Arnold said he has enjoyed getting to know the people of Kershaw County so far and is looking forward to getting to know them more in the coming years.

“This is a very good spot for me to be in right now,” Arnold said.

Carpenter said Arnold has more than 20 years of experience and comes very highly recommended by those he has worked with.

“He’s a great guy and we are just thrilled to have him,” Carpenter said.

According to the Kershaw County government website, the Assessor’s Office establishes mass property values and utilizes standard mass appraisal practices. It also assigns values and determines the eligibility for assessment ratios used in the calculation of property taxes. It does not calculate or determine the amount of actual taxes. The Kershaw County Assessor’s Office is located in the Kershaw County Government Center on Walnut Street.
