The 2013 Camden Lugoff Area Shag Society (CLASS) Shag Blast was held June 8 at the Camden Shrine Club.

It is the CLASS’s annual major fundraising event.

This year the CLASS Shag Blast benefitted the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County and Food for the Soul of Kershaw County.

Thanks to their sponsors and the work of the CLASS club members, they were able to distribute $4,400. Each organization received a check for $2,200. This is the most they have been able to donate in the last eight years.

CLASS is very proud of their accomplishment this year with the economy the way it is today.

A total of 156 people attended this year’s event. According to CLASS Shag Blast Chairman Ray Amyette, it was a night of "great food, great music and great fellowship with fellow shaggers."

Open dancing started at 6 p.m. and ended at midnight.

"People were there to the very end and were still dancing and having a good time," Amyette said.

Five CLASS DJs provided beach, line and shag music.

"Special thanks to all of our sponsors and the Shag Blast Committee Members. Without them, the CLASS Shag Blast would not be possible," Amyette said.

CLASS plans to hold next year’s Shag Blast June 14.
