Former Lugoff-Elgin High School golf standout Bobby Few punched his ticket into the 99th Carolinas Amateur Championship that will be played July 11-14 at The Ocean Course in Kiawah Island by winning Monday’s sectional qualifier.
Few, a Lugoff resident and a member of the USC-Lancaster golf team, carded a 3-under par 69 over the 6,474-yard, par 72 Lake Marion Golf Club in Santee on Monday. Few had a 34 on the front side and came back with a 35 on the back nine to tie Jarrett Swan of Mount Pleasant atop the final leader board. Tyler Zoller of Summerville claimed the third and final qualifying slot with a 2-under 70.
This event was a dual qualifier that was conducted by the South Carolina Golf Association on behalf of the Carolinas Golf Association.
Due to the Carolinas Amateur qualifier at Shadowmoss Plantation in Charleston, which was rescheduled for July 8, 24 players that were entered into the South Carolina Amateur sectional qualifier at Lake Marion Golf Club on the same date had a schedule conflict between the two events. As a compromise, these players had the opportunity to attempt to qualify for both the Carolinas Amateur Championship and the South Carolina Amateur Championship via the South Carolina Amateur Championship qualifier.
