The Camden-Lugoff Elks Lodge 2603 will host its annual “Hoop Shoot” foul shooting contest on Saturday, Jan. 15 at E. Clarkson Rhame City Arena in Camden.

The free throw shooting competition will begin at noon and is open to boys and girls ages eight through 13. There is no cost to enter and/or watch the event.

Contestants’ age will be determined by their age as of April 1, 2011.

There will be six age groups, for both boys and girls. Those are: ages 8-9; 10-11 and 12-13. Boys and girls taking part in the 8-9-year-old groups will be allowed to shoot four feet in front of the 15-foot free throw stripe and will use a smaller basketball.

Each contestant will shoot five warm-ups and 10 free throws and then, after waiting their turn, will shoot 15 more for a total of 25 shots.

Boys and girls who win at the local level will move on to the state level and can advance to the regional semi-finals and then, the national finals to be held at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
