It’s time for fall sports registration

It’s time once again to sign up for the Kershaw County Recreation Department’s (KCRD) fall sports programs. The registration fee is $32 for football, soccer, baseball and soccer, and includes insurance. The registration fee for cheerleading is $25 and includes a uniform and insurance.

New participants should bring a child’s birth certificate at the time of registration.

The available programs are as follows:

Cheerleading, ages 5-13 (birthday cutoff is Sept. 1, 2013)

Fall Dixie Youth baseball, ages 9-12 (birthday cutoff is May 1, 2014)

Fall FastPitch Softball, ages 9-12 (birthday cutoff is Jan. 1, 2014)

Fall Pitching Machine, ages 8-10 (birthday cutoff is May 1, 2014)

Football, ages 8-13 (birthday cutoff is Sept. 1, 2013)

Soccer, ages 4-16 (birthday cutoff is Sept. 1, 2013)

Registration will be at the following dates and locations:

• KCRD Office on West DeKalb Street, Camden -- July 22-Aug. 9 (Monday-Friday), 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Aug. 3 (Saturday), 10 a.m. to noon; Aug. 10 (Saturday), 9 a.m. to noon.

• Wildwood Park on Wildwood Lane, Lugoff -- July 29-Aug. 2 (Monday-Friday), 5:30 to 7 p.m.; Aug. 3 (Saturday), 10 a.m. to noon.

• North Central High School Wellness Center -- Aug. 5, 6 and 8 (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), 6 to 7 p.m.; Aug. 10 (Saturday), 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

• Mt. Pisgah Elementary School -- Aug. 12, 13 and 15 (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), 6 to 7 p.m.; Aug. 17 (Saturday), 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

• Bethune Recreation Center -- Aug. 19, 20 and 22 (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday), 6 to 7 p.m.; Aug. 24 (Saturday), 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Soccer camp

This soccer camp is open for boys and girls ages 6-14. Players will be grouped by age, size, and ability. Daily training sessions will include individual ball handling skills, partner skills, developmental games and much more. This fun-filled week is the perfect way to introduce players to the game of soccer and to challenge advanced players to improve their game. Players must wear shin guards and bring a water bottle and soccer ball.

The instructor is Peter Wittig, who has 22 years experience coaching at the college, high school, and youth level. Coach Wittig is the varsity boys soccer coach at Blythewood High School.

The date of the camp are August 5 -9 at the Kershaw County West Complex located at 519 Whitehead Rd., Lugoff

The cost of the camp is $65.00 (includes t-shirt). The camp will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon.

Pre-registration is required by July 31.

H20 Fun Camp

This swim camp is offered to boys and girls ages 6 - 11 who already have basic swimming skills. They must be able to swim 25 yards independently. The instructors are experienced Red Cross Lifeguards. They will provide unique and fun activities in and out of the pool. Participants will learn how to play safely as a team in and around water as well as having tons of fun! This is not a swim lesson, it is recreation only. The camp will be held from July 29 - Aug. 1, Monday through Thursday at the Kershaw County Aquatic Center located on Battleship Road. The cost is $60.00 and the camp will be held from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. Pre-registration required by July 24


Get a good workout while learning self defense methods with Tae-Kwon-Do classes.

The classes are held each Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. for ages 5 and older at the old armory upstairs. Children will learn self-confidence and self-discipline and adults will master self-defense while getting the ultimate workout.

The fee per month is $30 a month. Pre-registration is required; call the Recreation Dept. office for more information.


Zumba targets the glutes, legs, arms and abs, all while burning calories through an interval workout of fast and slow movements.

The class will be offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Class fees are $5 for one class (walk-in); $20 once a week; and $30 twice a week.

Pre-registration is required at the Recreation Dept. office with a minimum of six enrolled in the session. Call for more information.
