The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) arrested an Elgin man Thursday in a sexual assault case involving a Lexington man arrested earlier that day.

According to a KCSO press release issued Friday morning, KCSO deputies arrested Ryan Bradley Pierce, 20, of Elgin, charging him with one count of second-degree criminal sexual assault of a minor between the ages of 11 and 14. The KCSO said Pierce was present when the first suspect, Chad Michael Rabon, 23, of Lexington, had sexual relations with a 14-year-old Kershaw County girl Rabon met online. The KCSO also alleges that, during one of those occasions, Pierce had sexual relations with a different 14-year-old girl at the same location.

The case began in mid-June when the first girl’s mother contacted the KCSO saying her daughter had been sexually involved with Rabon. The KCSO conducted a thorough investigation of those allegations and obtained a warrant for Rabon, who was located by Lexington County authorities Thursday.

The KCSO investigator working the case interviewed the second young girl on July 2. She underwent a forensic interview during which she detailed her involvement with Pierce. Based on her statements, the interview and other evidenced, the investigator obtained a warrant for Pierce who has no criminal history.

“There seems to be a lot of this type activity going on lately. Adult men need to realize that if they take advantage of young girls in this manner and we find out about it, we will thoroughly investigate the allegations and if appropriate, put them in jail,” Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said. “This kind of activity needs to stop.”

Pierce is currently being detained at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
