Lugoff-Elgin, which fell to Westwood, 7-6, in Friday’s eighth annual Mid Carolina Credit Union Kickoff Classic at Lugoff-Elgin Stadium, will open its regular season on Friday when Fort Mill comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Due to space limitations in today’s sports section, the recap from the MCCU Kickoff Classic will be included in Wednesday’s edition of the paper, along with a preview of the Demons’ upcoming campaign.
As for the rest of the varsity football teams in Kershaw County, Camden stays at home on Friday to play host to West Florence, which upended Blythewood, 17-7, in Friday’s second mini-game at Lugoff-Elgin Stadium.
North Central  will get an extra week to recover from Friday’s heart-wrenching loss to Cardinal Newman as the Knights have this week off. They will host Whitmire on Friday, Sept. 6 to kick off a four-week homestand in Boonetown.
Camden Military Academy, which starts classes today, had its scheduled season opener at the Greenville Hurricanes cancelled with the Hurricanes switched to eight-man football.
The Spartans will kick off their season when they travel to meet North Central on Friday, Sept. 13.
