Santa Claus is old.

Like, really old, according to a group of 13 Santa experts at Bethune Elementary School.

“He’s, like, 25 years old,” one girl said.

“No, he’s older than that,” another boy added. “Maybe 38 years old?”

After a heated debate, the experts reached a group consensus: Santa Claus is somewhere between 25 years old and 1.1 million years old -- no more and no less.

On the Kershaw County School District’s last full day of school before the winter holiday break, the Chronicle-Independent sat down with a lively group of Santa experts to talk about Christmas.

The group of students, whose ages ranged from 5 to 10 years old, included Elena Baskin, Zoie Beebe, Carrie Eubanks, Timothy Foody, Laken Gross, Kiersten Harris, Summer Hayes, Kloe King, Matthew Mccaa, Carissa Stover, Nakoyiss Sweetenburg, Sierra Thompson and Omarion Woods.

Here is a sampling of answers collected during that visit:

Q: So what does everyone want for Christmas?

A: Nintendo DSi XL, laptop, Xbox, mp3 players, clothes and a Wolverine (action figure toy).

Q: That sounds like a lot of gifts. Who has been good this year?

A: Well, my mom said I’m kinda naughty and kinda nice this year. But she did say that I was kinda nice so I’m on the nice list.

Q: Don’t you think Santa’s mom is going to worry about him being out so late on Christmas Eve?

A: Santa is a grown man. He can do whatever he wants.

Q: Are you going to stay up and wait on him to come to your house?

A: You have to go to sleep. If you stay up, then he won’t come to your house. But I’m going to dress up as an elf and help him out just so he won’t have to do so much work.

Q: What does Santa look like?

A: He wears a red suit and he has a big beard. And he’s super strong. He’s got muscles because he lifts a lot of weights.

Q: What is Mrs. Claus’ first name?

A: Magoona.

*Additional first name suggestions included Tanacca, Pink and Beautiful.

Q: What does Santa like to eat?

A: Kentucky Fried Chicken, jelly sandwiches, milk and cookies.

Q: What about vegetables? Does Santa like healthy food?

A: He likes carrots, broccoli and all the vegetables. He likes to be healthy. I’m going to leave him some carrots and broccoli this year. And maybe a cookie. But I don’t know, I’m gonna need him to fit in our chimney.

Q: If you had one thing you wanted to say to Santa, what would it be?

A: You should take all of the people on the naughty list and put them on the nice list, just to give them a second chance. And, I know you’re a workaholic, but try not to stress out this year.
