Charles Clinton Hewitt

A pillar of Southern Gospel Music, Charles Clinton Hewitt, 81, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, August 24, 2013, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Vonda Kay Dennis Hewitt.

Mr. Hewitt was born the son of Berry Hewitt and Dovie Ransom Hewitt on March 29, 1932 in Laurinburg, NC. He was the owner and operator of Hewitts Used Cars. He was a lifetime Southern Gospel Singer who committed his life to the local church ministry.

He leaves behind: his wife; four children, Cheryl (Myron) Gleaton, Byron (Janet) Hewitt, Carol (Bill) Hicks, and Richard "Rick" (Grace) Hewitt; three step-children, April Thaxton, Travis Thaxton, and James (Lauren) Thaxton; eleven grandchildren, and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind: three brothers, Spencer (Deanna) Hewitt, Lamar (Ernestine) Hewitt and CL Hewitt; and two sisters, Marie Hennessee and Regina (Jimmy) Whitfield.

He was predeceased by: his parents; and four great grandchildren.

A Home Going Celebration with Recognition of Distinguished Christian Service will be 7 PM, Tuesday evening, August 27, 2013, at the Freedom Tabernacle Full Gospel Church. The Hewitt family will receive family and friends immediately after the service in the church sanctuary.

A Committal Service will be 10 AM, Wednesday morning, August 28, 2013, in the Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery directed by the Hemingway Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.
