Deacon Caleb Joshua White

Lugoff- On Friday evening, August 23, 2013, Deacon Caleb Joshua White journeyed home to be with the Lord. He was born to the late Edward Manning White and Hattie E. (Murphy) Peay White on Monday, July 21, 1932 in Lugoff, South Carolina.

Early in life, Deacon White accepted Christ and grew in his service to the Lord at the former Ephesus United Methodist Church, Lugoff, SC. In later years he joined the Rock Hill Baptist Church, of Ridgeway, SC where he became a faithful member, was ordained as a Deacon and served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, President of the Jubilee Choir, and an active supporter of all church activities.

Deacon White was a member and past Worshipful Master of Longtown #123 Masonic Lodge.

He was a graduate of Jackson High School and served as a past president of the Jackson High Alumni Association. He had a deep rooted love for singing and shared his God given talent in church as one of the original members of the local gospel quartet, "The Singing Crusaders". The group made several recordings one of which was "Traveling Shoes". Additionally, Deacon White was also an original member of "The Willie Peay Community Singers". He presided as president of the local Toastmaster’s, and was a local political and educational activist. Other community activities included playing with and then coaching local baseball teams such as the Sand Hill Sluggers and the Lugoff Blue Sox as well as leading a local Boy Scout Troop…taking the time to positively influence the lives of many young men in the community. He retired from the former E.I. DuPont Company of Camden, SC after thirty-seven years of service.

He leaves to cherish his memory, five children, Kenneth C. White of Woodbridge, VA; Brenda Y. White of Fayetteville, NC; Larry D. White of Lugoff, SC; Otilya White Outten of Lugoff, SC; Charlester C. White of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Kenitha C. White (Juan P. Perez); Bretina L. Outten and Joshua G. Taylor; one great granddaughter, Iliana C. Perez; one brother, Herbert White (Evelyn) of Lugoff, SC; one sister Alice Williams of Lugoff, SC; four sisters-in-law, Dorothy White of Brooklyn, NY; Pauline Carter of Washington, DC; Alice C. White of Ridgeway, SC; Jozelle Burrows of Brooklyn, NY; a brother-in-law, Caesar White (Anna) of Silver Hill, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In his heavenly home, Deacon White joins his loving wife, of 59 years, Sister Lassiree Mozelle White, who preceded him in death on August 31, 2012.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael E. White; a sister Sadie Peay Moore and four brothers, Melvin Peay, Edward J. White, David Peay, and Jessie Peay. Memorials may be made to the Rock Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, Ridgeway, S.C.

Celebration of Life services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11a.m. at Rock Hill Baptist Church, Ridgeway, S.C.

Brown’s Funeral Home, Inc., Camden will be assisting the White Family.
