Two men allegedly ran over a Bethune man with a van and then stole the victim’s moped, according to information from the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO). The victim later died of his injuries.

A KCSO incident report identified the victim as 67-year-old Allen Thomas Robinson. Robinson died Sunday after the two suspects allegedly ran over him Saturday on Freeman Road several miles northwest of Bethune. The two as yet unidentified men allegedly left Robinson on Freeman Road, taking his moped. Robinson was taken to a Columbia hospital.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies have one person in custody, but did not identify the suspect, and are looking for a second suspect.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers said Robinson died of blunt force trauma and ruled his death a homicide. The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the incident as well.

The KCSO reported the following other incidents during the period of Aug 19-25:

A Lugoff woman reported that her son was assaulted at a party on Black River Road, Camden. The woman reported that her son was mobbed by a gang of individuals and hit with a beer bottle, baseball bat and was threatened with a gun. When the woman arrived at the scene, the involved parties allegedly admitted to harming her son. Her son had lacerations to his hand and head. Another incident report claimed that the woman’s son was the subject and two other parties both had injuries.

Three accomplices stole more than $200 in lighters and more than $180 in pain relievers from a Lugoff gas station.

An Elgin man threw a flower pot at his girlfriend, breaking her nose.

Someone shot six 12-gauge shell casings into a crowd on Highway 1, Lugoff.

County deputies also assisted other agencies, served bench warrants and dealt with eight public disorderly conducts and simple assaults; three vandalisms and larcenies; two narcotic violations, bad checks, thefts from motor vehicles, forgeries and intimidations; and one harassment and death.

The CPD did not have reports available for publication by deadline Friday.
