CMA runs past Knights for first win

North Central’s Matt Frazier led the way home, but Camden Military Academy was able to fill up the top 10 with seven of its runners in downing the Knights, 37-23, in a cross country meet run in Boonetown on Friday, Sept. 6.
Frazier completed the 3.1-mile course in a time of 21:02. A pair of CMA runners, Gabe Fort and Eric Stromme, followed Frazier to the finish line with the Spartan runners finishing in times of 21:38 and 23:41, respectively. NC’s Mason Gomez (24:15) was fourth followed by CMA’s Alexey Kuimov, who rounded out the top five with a clocking of 25:11.
The rest of the top 10 finishers, in order, were Cameron Key (CMA, 25:37), Simon Falk (CMA, 26:11), Ervin King (NC, 27:36), Max Zaslower (CMA, 29:54) and CMA’s Saber Neupayne (30:01).
NC’s Broderick Gaither was 11th in a time of 32:21 while teammate Bryer Tilton rounded out the scoring for the hosts as he came in 17th in a time of 33:17.
Last Tuesday, CMA finished third in a meet hosted by Lancaster. Northwestern won the event with 20 points followed by Lancaster (37) and the Spartans (85.)
Fort was the top finisher for John Heflin’s runners as he came in 20th place with a final time of 23:43. Stromme (25:43) was 24th with Falk two spots behind in 26th with a run of 26:17. Rounding out the scoring for CMA were Key and Zaslower, who were 28th and 29th and timed in 27:29 and 27:51.
CMA heads to Orangeburg Prep today for a meet before traveling to Trinity Collegiate on Thursday.
North Central will be in Chapin today before heading to Columbia to the Sandhills Research Park for Saturday’s Coaches Classic.
