KCPR 14th annual Senior Golf Tournament registration open

Kershaw County Parks & Recreation will host its 14th annual Senior Golf Tournament (for ages 50 and up) on Friday, September 27.

The entry deadline is September 20. The tournament will be held at White Pines Golf Club in Camden.

The format is Captians Choice and the shotgun start will begin at 9 a.m. There will be door prizes and trophies for winners. Closest to Pin: men and women. Longest Drive: men and women.

The entry fee is $35 per person, includes cart, greens fee, muligan, t-shirt and lunch. The tournament is sponsored by the Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department and Todd & Moore of Columbia. For more information, call 425-6009.


New/ Potential Class Sign ups

Several new classes will begin at the Recreation Center. Please contact the office at 425-6009 to be placed on the list if you are interested in a class.

An Etiquette class will be held for 12 weeks, once a week, for ages six to ten years old at a cost of $90 per child.

Another new class will be Bricks 4 kidz. This program provides an extraordinary atmosphere for students to build unique creations, play games, and have loads of fun using LEGO® bricks.

The activities are designed to trigger young children’s lively imaginations and build their self-confidence. Time and cost for this class will be announced at a later date.

A third class being considered is Doddle Bugs, an art program for children ages 3 to 15 years old which will encourage kids to use their creativity while exploring the subjects that interest them.

This will be held once a week, for 8 weeks, at a cost of $35 per week/child.


KCPR Referee’s needed

Kershaw County Parks and Recreation is now seeking individuals interested in refereeing football and soccer for the upcoming fall sports season. There is a critical need for certified officials. We will also be offering certification classes for those not certified.

Pay rates depend on certifications grades.

Dance Classes

Tap, Jazz, Ballet, and Baton classes started September 4 at the Kershaw County Recreation Department. The classes are for ages 2 and up. Kim Forrest is the instructor and brings over 34 years of experience in the dancing field.

Classes will be on Wednesdays starting at 4 p.m. with the fee being $42 a month. Classes are taught in combination.

Pre registration is required, come by the Recreation Department office to register.

Want to get in shape without all the running, jumping and bouncing?

Try Tonetics --- a deep-muscle exercise class involving walking, stretching, bar usage and more.

The purpose is to tone and lose inches, while working all major muscle groups to achieve an all-over muscle fitness.

The class meets from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Recreation Department building. The five-week course is offered at a cost of $20.

The instructor is Pam Boheler. Pre-registration is required; call the Rec Department office for more information.
