An emergency team responded to the scene of a three-vehicle collision involving a school bus full of West Wateree Elementary children Thursday afternoon.

A car rear-ended the bus near Pine Mark subdivision on U.S. 1 just past Lugoff-Elgin High School around 3:30 p.m.

Lugoff Fire Department Battalion Chief Chris Spitzer said five children were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and three people were transported to the hospital in an unknown condition.

S.C. Highway Patrol troopers closed a portion of U.S. 1 during the investigation. Another school bus was sent to the scene to take the remaining students home.
